Pediatric endocrinology is a specialty that deals with endocrine disorders, that is the normal and abnormal function of hormones. At the centre we see patients from birth into their late teens and early adulthood with a wide variety of hormonal problems. We specialize in all forms of diabetes including insulin pump therapy. We also see patients for growth problems both tall and short stature, early and late puberty, hypoglycaemia, adrenal, thyroid and pituitary problems.
Lipid and weight management are special areas of interest as are intersex conditions.

With the start of the new year and all the kids returning to school or the new kids starting for the first time, parents tend to be a bit anxious and new teachers will need to be informed and re-educate on your childs diabetes
Here are some tips:
- Educate the teachers and school on diabetes and management of hypoglycemia - a booklet of information for the teavhers can be emailed if you request it by emailing

- Give your child all necessary supplies, i.e Glucose meter, low blood glucose treatment and emergency numbers
- If you would like a diabetes youth leader to go to your school to do education you can email

and i will forward the information on how to contact them.
- More importantly relax thereafter - going to school is an exciting time for children and if everyone is educated and understands diabetes then there is no need to stress. Team work is dream work.
We are currently trying to set up diabetes support groups in areas around Joburg - More information to follow shortly.
